The 30 day Lolita Challenge – Day 4 – 10 different kinds of food you like.

1. Ramen

My current favourite is the Akamaru Kakuni from Ippudo, but I’ve also eaten many delicious (CHEAP) bowls of ramen during my annual trips to Japan.  Luckily my hubby shares my love for ramen, so whenever we hear of a good place here in Singapore, we’ll be sure to check it out;) The one below is from my hubby’s fav place, Nantsuttei (black sesame oil mmmmm)

2. Tofu

I love all kinds except the ‘smelly tofu’ that is popular in places like Taiwan and Hong Kong. In a meal, a drink, a dessert YES PLEASE!

Had a wonderful kaiseki style lunch at Roppongi with my aunt once, and the entire meal was made out of tofu, but with many different flavors and textures, you’d never realize. ❤

3. Bubble Tea

Popularized in Asia, the most standard kind is a milk tea with tapioca ‘pearl’s in them. I think they call them ‘Boba’ in the US, and I’ve heard they are exhorbitantly expensive in the UK.

4. Salad

I adore fresh greens. Slather it in vinaigrette, honey mustard, caesar, ranch – and I’m sunk!:D

5. Beef

Tender, medium-well juicy beef please!

6. Tea anything

Tea flavored soup (yes we have that here! its called ‘thunder tea rice’), tea ice cream, tea cake… Yum!

7. Cupcakes

I love baking them 😉 and the best part is watching someone else enjoy them!:D

8. Macarons

they come in so many different colors and flavors! how can anyone resist?

9. Cheese + anything

I used to joke that I’d eat a brick if you melted cheese on it – at least I think its a joke… ^_^;

10. Pizza

Pepperoni + Mushrooms + extra cheeeseeeeeeeeeee!

The 30 day Lolita Challenge – Day 3 – 10 things you hate in lolita.

1) The drycleaning – it costs a lot and you always worry when you send a precious item to be cleaned.

2) The weather – humid, sunny Singapore doesn’t help when you’re dressed in Loli. Petticoats de-fluff, hair wilts, makeup melts off D:

3) The cost – let’s face it, Loli is very expensive and addictive.

4) The Drama – the bad kind. ’nuff said.

5) Replicas – and not the ‘inspired’ kind. The all-out-scanned-print type. 😦

6) Selling things – we all have to do closet-clearing every now and then, and while I’ve had nothing but good experiences on the selling comm, its just something I don’t like to do.

7) Missing out on pre-orders, sales, etc  ;_;

8) The association with Nabokov’s Lolita

9) Being called a milk-maid, cosplay, maid etc etc

10) People forcing their own opinions on others, i.e. too fat, too ugly, too old, too _____ (insert) for Lolita.

The 30 day Lolita Challenge – Day 2 – 10 things you love in lolita.

1. Wristlets

I’ve been crazy about wristlets even during the old-school loli days – my first pair was from BtSSB, but AP has replaced my affections as my #1 place for wristlets for 3 reasons a)Tulle Lace b)Cute designs c)COLORS!! – I’d buy them in all colors if I could~!  So far I’m missing sax, blue, brown – and maybe a new set of white & black? 😀

2. Headwear

Katyusha (head-eating bows), sidebows, canotiers, floral headbands, hats, bonnets! – you name it, I love it.

I had this thing about always buying the matching headbow for print jsk/skirts, but I’ve been weaning myself off that, so that I can be a bit more creative in coordination. Even in normal wear, my exposure to loli headwear has made me more open to adding little accent touches – hats, hairclips, hairbands, berets – you name it!

3. Prints

There’s just something magical about prints that turn a dress from a piece of clothing into wearable art for me. 🙂

4. Creativity

I was never very creative with mixing colors and patterns until I got into the Loli fashion – definitely inspired by all those beautiful coordinations out there, where colors reinforce and complement one another. For some reason I don’t feel that mainstream fashion generally incorporates that many shades/colors in such a pleasing way – but I’m definitely biased towards pastels and neutrals.

I love to see how people interpret the loli silhouette, but work themes and other inspirations while still retaining its ‘loli-ness’

5. Tea Parties

Call me cliched, but I really do enjoy dressing up, and sitting in a lovely tea room with girlfriends to chat the day away. (I love tea – plain, blended, iced, hot, as a food flavoring – <3) and who can resist cakes and desserts?

6. Drama

No, I don’t mean the sort we get on loli-secrets or other comms – I mean how dramatic coordis can get! I love seeing OTT coordinations that work – hard to wear in RL, but so, so pretty!

Themed meetups often encourage such OTT-ness, and it makes me so happy:)

7. Pastel sweet prints

Love this – from florals to macarons to carousel horses. Love them all except for things that feature blocks and other baby toys – I just can’t see myself wearing those.

8. Contrasty prints

BXW, BXN, BXG, OWG, OWK + anything with gold -> Moitie, JetJ, Lief (AP to some extent) are really good at these! They have to be border prints tho.

9. Florals

In your hair, on your dress, shoes – whatever. Love them.

10. The whimsy and magic it adds to everyday life.

The 30 day Lolita Challenge :Day 1 – 10 things about your lolita bubble

1. I have loved all things frilly and girly – and lolita is a natural extension of that.

2. I have a mannequin that I dress up all the time in different coordinates – even though I can’t wear loli everyday, at least mannequin-chan can 🙂 It makes me happy to look at when I come home from work at night. I’ve been posting these coordinates on my tumblr mostly and its very interesting to see that the most popular coordis are generally what I term as dolly-kei inspired or OTT classic. 😀 Some of the more recent coordis below

3. I’ve been into Lolita since 2002! how time flies. My first exposure was prolly Mana-sama in all his frilly glory back then in Malice Mizer’s heyday. I still love MMM!

4. I was primarily an old-school shirololi, but all this changed somewhere in 2008 onwards, where my wardrobe started exploding with color. BtSSB was my favourite brand, as evidenced by this photo (from the EGL wardrobe post in 2009 – that was just the amount of BtSSB that I had amassed ^_^;;;;)

5. My lolita style today would be best described as eclectic – I love sweet, old-school, classic, gothic and deco – with a bit of mori and dollykei thrown in for good measure – I think its the coordination aspect that I really really love. I try to mix in more offbrand pieces (when pre-2008, i used to wear matchy matchy/top-to-toe one brand)

6. I have a ridiculous love for bonnets and floral headpieces. Triplefortune pwn3d my rori soul.

7. I have a dressing room that is my little lolita shrine/shop concept~ complete with little dressmaker’s form – this is my dressing room aka refuge at home.

8. I don’t consider myself a lifestyle lolita, although I love baking, dolls, tea, frilly dresses – though I will say it is definitely a part of who I am. I wonder if photography figures in here somewhere, as its something that I love too:D

9. My closest girlfriends are also into the fashion – we started out in cosplay -> lolita -> dolls, and are awesome friends. Aka the Sparklybits (which is not as innocently girly a nickname as it seems LOL)

10. Its been almost a decade, and I do feel really old sometimes, especially in comparison with the teenagers into the fashion nowadays, but I don’t intend to move on just quite yet – its something that I genuinely love and enjoy, and I do it for myself. It never fails to make me happy, especially seeing the fantastic looks and coordis that many of the international lolis (new and not-so-new to the scene) come up with, and I’m never tired of watching the different trends and new prints that emerge!

Simple SNT Coordi for The Doll Affair 2011

This is what I wore for Singapore’s only BJD event – we had a Circus themed booth, so I dressed accordingly, but since it wasn’t a loli event, its toned down somewhat.

I’m quite sad that you can’t see my goldxblack stockings in this pic, it was shiny and prett3h! 😀 And please excuse me if I look tired, we woke up really early to prepare for our booth.

This is part of our booth display – official photo from Jamie who was the event’s photographer<3 I didn’t bring my camera as we already had a lot of stuff to bring! Doll clothing was commissioned from ArcadiaDolls for this event!
